I was born in London, UK, and studied physics at Nottingham then Bristol universities. After completing my MSc and PhD I continued in materials science research at Bristol for about 10 years.
In 1986 I moved to Italy, where I worked as a science journalist, and also as a science writer/editor and translator for a newly established UN science centre in Trieste. I was also a freelance translator.
Trieste is known locally as "Science City" for its wealth of scientific activity and range of institutions. I remained there until 2002.
I now live in Wales, and work freelance as an editor and translator for various clients including researchers at universities in Italy, France and Portugal.
My interests include poetry, languages, travel, sports, bridge, Russian culture, and anything to do with water.
